The AIALA hosts a Town Hall to discuss the experiences of LGBTQIA+ members, design professionals, and individuals working in the built environment. Join us for a discussion on: How inclusive is the profession of architecture for the LGBTQIA+ community? What resources should be developed? Why do these conversations rarely occur at a Town Hall level? How do we make sure the profession is seen as welcoming to non-binary designers and architects in the future? Each year COTE gathers to talk about a few of the issues that architects are addressing in their practices, communities, and AIA components. In 2021, the COTE Open Forum will examine how pursuing climate action and climate justice are occurring in four realms of activity: advocacy, electrification, resilience, and the 2030 Commitment.

The event will be kicked-off by Christine Knapp who tackles these issues and more as Director of Sustainability for the City of Philadelphia. She'll reference how her office works with AIA Philadelphia COTE to create a more sustainable city.

Join us on June 24 (3:30-5pm EDT) for a lively discussion! We welcome AIA COTE members and any and all who work with them to advance climate action and climate justice in the building and placemaking field – owners, city officials, policymakers, engineers, planners, and others. Come for the interactive discussion and actionable takeaways.

This networking event is not eligible for AIA continuing education credit.

Brought to you by MWA + Hickman Edge Systems

1 Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) AIA Credit will be provided by MWA

Description: This one-hour course examines the importance of specifying the proper edge solution for commercial roofing systems that complies with the most recent code changes with products that have been tested for the appropriate type of project. The correct edge system will not only be functional and have an aesthetic style that suits design professionals, but it will also serve as the roof’s first line of defense against wind damage and water infiltration.

To reduce liability associated with substantial roof damage and loss from a storm, it is important for design professionals to fully understand changes in the building code and testing methods required for each project. The goal is to equip designers and specifiers with cutting edge information to make critical decisions that will ensure the building envelope is securely protected with edge systems that meet or exceed expectations as well as better protect building occupants.
