From the AIA Center for Emerging Professionals:

2020 graduates and early career professionals are entering the profession at an unprecedented time. With social distancing guidelines, and states slowly lifting their stay-at-home orders, starting your career can be a daunting task. As the profession prepares for economic uncertainty, firms must be more discerning about how they grow their staff. Hear from three firm leaders and a recently hired emerging professional on what firms are looking for in potential candidates. Learn tips on how to stand out from the crowd and navigate the interviewing process. Finally, prepare yourself for the virtual onboarding process and integrating yourself into the team from afar. Join The Hip Hop Architecture team and our special guests, including Lupe Fiasco, on Saturday June 6 as we launch our Open Call for Submissions!

Join the live interview and take the challenge if you're interested in visualizing a Just City which matches the demands in hip hop music! We're challenging everyone (architects students, designers, artists, singers, rappers, and hip hop fans) to use hip hop's protest music as prompts for imagining a Just City. A City which has dismantled and defeated racism.   [post_title] => Hip Hop as Design Justice Open Call for Submissions and Interview [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => closed [post_password] => [post_name] => hip-hop-as-design-justice-open-call-for-submissions-and-interview [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2020-08-09 03:28:06 [post_modified_gmt] => 2020-08-09 07:28:06 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => https://aiadetroit.com/event/hip-hop-as-design-justice-open-call-for-submissions-and-interview/ [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => ai1ec_event [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw )

As a followup discussion to the May 14th "Return to the Office: A Shared Discussion for Architecture Firms" webinar (the recording of which will be shared soon), AIA Michigan and AIA Detroit will co-host another virtual panel focusing on the an aspect of the architect's work that is already in the process of reopening: project sites, whether or not under construction.

The May 21st conversation will be led not just by architects, but also contractors, many of whom have already implemented plans and are in the process of returning to work. Each panelist will bring their own thoughts and experiences in visiting and working at active sites where social distancing is more difficult and is layered on top of existing job site safety standards.
