We will discuss, using a case study, the impact of code required NFPA 285 assembly requirements on the choices for wall assemblies.

Learning Objectives:
•  Understand how decisions about insulation, air barriers and exterior cladding materials are impacted by code requirements for NFPA 285 Testing
•  Explore when NFPA 285 testing is required for exterior wall assemblies.
•  Understand how 3rd party engineering evaluations can assist with determining compliance of wall assemblies that are required to pass NFPA 285.
•  Demystifying the NFPA 285 requirements for exterior wall assemblies.

Speaker Info:
Dawn Peterson, AIA CSI, CDT, LEED AP, has 26 years of experience as an Architect and Specifications Writer. She assists the team throughout the project using her exceptional technical expertise to recommend products and alternative products that will achieve and exceed the project requirements and goals. She has been involved in the development of a variety of new environments and redesigning existing spaces to accommodate new uses. She works closely with users, engineers, and other members of the project team to resolve programmatic and budget issues and turn creative and complex design ideas into a comprehensive set of construction documents.

Since joining Neumann/Smith in 2008, she has been responsible for the development of project specifications and reviewing/critiquing the firm’s construction drawings. She also serves as the firm’s technical advisor on materials, systems, and detailing.
