BEC & CSI | We’ll figure it out in CA
1.5 Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) AIA Continuing Education will be made available by Metro Detroit CSI
In-person Attendees Only: $5.00 at the venue
DESCRIPTION: With better technology comes more efficient tools, processes, and integration that allow design professionals to assemble design documentation in record time… or at least that’s the perception. In reality, design professionals are grappling with compressed schedules, more complicated construction detailing, and managing a greater number of specialized consultants than ever before. The race against the clock mentality has led to the practice of “figuring it out during construction” instead of considering the consequences of issuing half-baked documents. This panel discussion will highlight problems that can arise out of designing during the Construction Administration (CA) phase from the vantage point of an architectural project manager, construction contract administrator, specifier, and enclosure consultant. Panelists will also share tools and best practices for managing time and information more efficiently leading up to CA and during the CA phase.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Participants will understand the complexities of project coordination that are often underdeveloped in a fast-tracked project and what kinds of questions and problems arise out of them if left undefined.
2. Participants will review procedural and contract requirements that exist within a typical project manual’s General Requirements (Division 01) that can aid in administering the contract in an efficient manner during CA.
3. Participants will learn best practices for coordinating with enclosure consultants and other specialty consultants during the design phases of the project to minimize unnecessary time spent during the construction phase.
4. Participants will learn of tools, processes, forms, best practices, and lessons learned from architects focused on CA phase work.
