Description:
In this course we will learn about ozone: its origins, advantageous properties, it’s use as an organic disinfectant and sanitizer, the regulatory requirements surrounding the use of ozone in commercial applications. Design considerations for a potential application.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will learn the basics about the use of ozone as effective disinfectant and sanitizer.
  2. Participants will learn about the regulatory and safety concerns when dealing with high concentrations of ozone and gain an understanding of the guidelines the industry must follow.
  3. Attendees will discuss and consider the various design considerations of an ozone cabinet and what is currently available in the market.
  4. Participants will gain a full understanding of the Zono Cabinet, it’s design and how it meets the regulatory and safety requirements.

HSW Justification:
In this course we will discuss the use of ozone to solve the real-world challenge of controlling germs. We will detail 1) Ozones’ origins and advantageous properties; 2) Ozone as an oxidizer that can be used use as a very effective organic viral disinfector and bacterial sanitizer; 3)The regulatory requirements surrounding the use of ozone in commercial applications; 4) Design considerations for a potential application. Independent laboratory tests have shown that ozone in proper concentrations can safely kill upwards of 99.99% of all common virus and 99.9% common bacteria (like MRSA and Staph) it comes in contact with; leaving behind no residue or requiring contact with harsh chemicals. This eco-friendly technology reduces the time, energy and chemicals required to safely disinfect and sanitize, even large quantities of items at one time. Ozone penetrates areas that liquid spray sanitizers have a difficult time reaching and can be used on a variety of surfaces, even electronics. Because of the intense oxidation qualities of ozone and the potentially hazardous nature, there are stringent government regulations on its use and what can be stated about its effectiveness. This presentation will review the requirements the EPA and FTC have on the use of ozone, the required statements, and the important role that independent laboratory testing of ozone cabinets plays in permitting a manufacturer to advertise the effectiveness of their design in killing specific viruses and bacteria. The presentation will also go over the important safety features this equipment needs to incorporate to protect individuals and the general sizes and capacities these cabinets are manufactured. This presentation will provide an update on the status of laboratory testing to kill COVID-19.
