DESCRIPTION: You asked for it! This 3-hour seminar will build upon the previous introductory Building Codes 101 and 102. It will delve into some of the mind twisting details of the building codes. We will be sharing some of the little nuggets of requirements, buried in the text, that have tripped up members of our committee and others over our many years of practice. Code snips from the pending 2021MBC, 2021 MI Energy Code, and A117.1-2017 Barrier Free Requirements, plus the current 2021MPC, 2021 MMC, 2024 NEC (MI Electrical Code), and 2016 MI Elevator Rules will be discussed.
You will be provided with a more in-depth look into the code as you requested after our previous events. Tips, lessons learned, don’t forget about, I didn’t know that, and more. Since we’ve all ‘been there’ at some point during our projects, we anticipate and welcome robust and entertaining audience participation as we look to help one another and share our various lessons learned over the years.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify what primary building regulations (codes and standards) apply to commercial building design in Michigan.
2. Learn how to confidently navigate the Michigan Building Code when designing a commercial building.
3. Explore the history and rationale for various technical provisions within the Michigan Building Code.
4. Review detailed code requirements of various technical provisions within the Michigan Building Code through sharing of case studies and learned project experiences.
Presenters are members of the AIA Detroit Building Code & Regulations Committee.
