Come meet up with the Emerging Professionals Committee for an open discussion on the topic of licensure within the profession of architecture. We will be joined by several individuals with different perspectives of the licensing process who will help facilitate the conversation and share their personal stories. Bring your questions and your point of view; this event is meant to act as an open discussion to get people taking about their opinions and motives, and possibly even help address any issues individuals might be having in regards to the licensing process.

Kimberly Montague, AIA
A&D Manager | Herman Miller Healthcare
Kimberly Montague has been a licensed architect for over 22 years and has worked in many capacities, both as an architect, planner and health care design strategist. In her current role, she serves as the Manager for the A&D team, and works to partner with architects and designers for collaboration on healthcare projects. As someone who is using her license in a non-traditional role, we know that Kim will be a unique perspective to share at the Licensure Forum.

Robert Piatek, AIA
Senior Vice President | HKS
Bob Piatek is an architect, artist, teacher, community activist, and a life-long resident of Detroit. He is an active member of our Urban Priorities Committee, working with young professionals on various community projects throughout the city, and is very passionate about the impact architecture and design can have on Detroit. He’s also a great listener, so if you have been struggling with the concept of licensure, grab a drink with Bob next Thursday!

Amy Deines, Assoc AIA
Associate Dean | LTU College of Architecture and Design
As a graduate of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Master of Architecture, Amy Green Deines has a diverse design background that builds on her academic training in industrial design and architecture. Ms. Deines began her academic tenure at the University of Detroit Mercy; School of Architecture, and is currently the Associate Dean at the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University. As an educator and practitioner, Amy focuses on research that encompasses the reclamation of space, place, and materials in post‐industrial landscapes.

Mark von Werder

As a Principal at JPRA Architects, Mark serves as a project manager, providing input during all phases of the design and construction process including project planning, design development, client coordination, architectural construction documents, coordination with regulation agencies and construction administration/field coordination. As a non-licensed individual working in the field of architecture, we are looking forward to hearing about Mark’s experiences next week.

Chandra Moore, Assoc AIA
Principal Designer | coG-studio LLC
Chandra Moore is the Director and founder of CoG-studio LLC. She grew up in California, where she began her experience working in architecture firms when she was a student in high school. This experience provided the foundation for her working in established firms around the world. Chandra is currently working towards earning her architectural license while running her company and raising a beautiful family. She will certainly have some light to shed on the topic of licensure next week.

James Witherspoon
Project Architect | Bedrock
James Witherspoon is a recently licensed Architect with the development team at Bedrock Real Estate Services. He received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan and his bachelor degree in Architectural History and Philosophy from Connecticut College. His recent projects include adaptive reuse studies for decommissioned industrial sites and the Detroit Future City framework. He is sure to have some interesting stories to share about being a young architect working under such a large company.
