BEC-GD May Program
Join the Building Enclosure Council of Greater Detroit for their monthly program!
AIA HSW Learning Unit(s) available upon course approval
Description:
Specifying rainscreen systems can be more complex than it seems. From understanding the technology, to clearly documenting design intent, to ensuring proper construction, architects face real challenges—made more difficult by the rapidly evolving nature of modern rainscreens and the lack of specialization in many practices.
This program breaks down the essentials, offering a clear look at how rainscreens work, why they matter, and where things often go wrong. Participants will gain a stronger foundation to navigate design decisions and improve project outcomes.
The first 40 registrants will receive a complimentary beer, courtesy of our sponsor, MWA. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to grab your drink before the presentation begins.
Learning Objectives:
a) A Brief History. Participants will discover how the rainscreen has evolved throughout history, providing insight into its unique value in today’s buildings.
b) Rainscreen Definition. Participants will be able to describe the components in a rainscreen and their function in the design of a building enclosure.
c) Why It’s Challenging. Participants will be able to recognize challenges and pitfalls in specifying rainscreen systems in order to better optimize their designs.
d) What Can Be Improved. Participants will learn how to collaborate with the design team and constructors in order to lay the foundation for project success.
