SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
This seminar, “2015 IBC Significant Changes” reviews and analyzes selected significant changes from the 2012 International Building Code (IBC) to the 2015 IBC. It familiarizes professionals with many of the significant changes in the 2015 IBC. It also assists code users in identifying the specific code changes that have occurred and understanding the reason behind the change. Finally, it focuses on those code changes selected due to their frequency of application, special significance or change in application. This course uses the ICC Workbook titled “Significant Changes to the International Building Code 2015 edition”, which will be provided at the event and is included for those who pre-register online.

Michigan’s adoption of this new code is Part 4 of the Construction Code, and currently adopts, by reference, the 2012 edition of the International Building Code (IBC), which is developed by the International Code Council and is based on building principles used in building codes across the country. Part 4 also includes rules that amend the IBC to address laws and climate conditions that are specific to Michigan. The proposed rules will adopt by reference the 2015 edition of the IBC with amendments, deletions, and additions deemed necessary for use in Michigan. The proposed rules provide the latest standards to protect the health and promote the safety and welfare of the people by regulating the construction of buildings within the state.

These Michigan Rule changes will be available on the AIA Detroit BC&RC website before the seminar event.
The Bureau of Construction Codes latest announced adoption date was February 23, 2017. However, this date is subject to change as determined by the Bureau.

Jay Woodward, Senior Staff Architect
International Code Council

Jay is a Senior Staff Architect with ICC’s Business and Product Development department and works out of the Lenexa, Kansas Distribution Center. His primary responsibility is the development of new ICC publications and instructing seminars. Among the publications he has authored or co-authored are the Significant Changes books on the IBC, IMC and A117.1 standard, and the recent ICC book Firestopping, Joint Systems and Dampers.

With over 30 years of experience in building design, construction, code enforcement and instruction, Jay’s experience provides him with the ability to communicate effectively on issues of code application and design for code enforcement personnel as well as architects and designers. Jay has previously served as the secretariat for the ICC A117.1 standard committee, ICC’s Energy Conservation Code and the International Building Code’s Fire Safety Code Development committee.
