Neumann/Smith Architecture Microsoft Detroit

Located in Detroit’s growing tech hub, this new technology and training center serves as a symbol of the change in corporate culture by integrating a traditional workplace environment with an edgy, modern feel that fosters collaboration and creativity. The renovation offers views from the building’s atrium into a makers space for technology development, providing guests with a look behind the scenes. The envisioning center also provides guests with the experience of working with client products in different environments. The lobby, designed as a living room, gives the space a resimmercial aesthetic through the use of locally sourced finishes typically found in residential spaces such as reclaimed wood walls, oversized couches, and a central coffee table. The suspended laser cut metal panels integrate the client’s logo into the ceiling, walls, and millwork. With 45,000+ sf occupied, 200 “remote employees” also have access to mobile offices in the new space.
