ROSSETTI Louis Armstrong Stadium

There are few sports that capture the imagination of a global audience. Tennis is played in most countries and by every generation. It is the quality of fan experience that sustains the earned reputation of the U.S. Open as a sports spectacle. This new stadium is located at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. The 14,069-seat tennis stadium features an innovative design that encourages air flow while keeping rain off the court and spectators, making it the first naturally ventilated tennis stadium with a retractable roof in the world. The vision of the client is for the stadium to host tennis matches in an open, day lit, outdoor environment, as much as possible, and provide weather protection only when necessary. These design imperatives, coupled with site constraints and a sustainability strategy led to an innovative design. It is certified LEED Silver.
