The GBC expansion creates a contemporary 2,800 square foot addition that provides a new entrance & communal gallery space for the congregation while enhancing their presence along Maple Road in Ann Arbor, MI. addition is sited to form a narrow entry bar across the existing facade and unify the disconnected entrances of the original building. Access to natural light and internal connectivity were of paramount consideration. The addition slopes sharply to the north forming a ‘mouth’ which opens to take full advantage of views into the adjacent woods while outwardly revealing the interior upon entrance to the site from the sloped drive. A large expanse of acid-etched glazing screens views eastward into the existing parking lot while allowing large amounts of diffused natural daylight to penetrate deep into the main gallery.
