McIntosh Poris Associates District Market

The design for the Arena Market builds on Detroit’s rich history of neighborhood markets by reinterpreting the original concept into a contemporary food hall within Little Caesar’s Arena. Elements of all types of markets combine to create an upscale, gourmet destination. Unlike most commercial spaces within sports venues, the market draws arena patrons and outside customers’ alike, providing constant activity and a street presence that enlivens the surrounding neighborhood known as The District Detroit, which is one of the largest sports and entertainment developments in the country. Distinctive stations and seating areas throughout the open space are finished in materials honoring Detroit’s industrial heritage. The market’s street façade is designed to blend into the architecture of the arena with a pedestrian-friendly design of masonry piers, steel and glass situated on the east side of the ground floor with direct access to street level walkways on one side and the Via interior concourse on the other serving both street and arena.
