Understanding the Ionic Order: Origins & Construction with Thomas Gordon Smith

An historical and technical introduction to Ionic Architecture. Geared toward the general observer and professionals alike, participants will learn how to draw the Ionic order according to Vitruvius. The column and entablature will be discussed together. Guests will explore the Ionic portions of the museum with a tour of the collection to follow.

(Participants should bring a note pad and pencil.)

Thomas Gordon Smith is widely recognized for his role in the contemporary revival of classicism. He has played a central role in the revival of classicism in contemporary architecture in America during the past two decades. Smith teaches and writes on American Grecian architecture and furniture design and has edited and published books on the works of Vitruvius and their pertinence to contemporary architecture.
