Kimberly Montague has been a licensed architect for over 20 years and has worked in many capacities, both as an architect, planner and health care design strategist. In her current role, she serves as the Manager for the A&D team, and works to partner with architects and designers for knowledge sharing, resources and collaboration on healthcare projects. Prior to joining Kimball International, she worked as the Business Development Director at HKS, the health care team at Herman Miller Healthcare, and the Director of Design Consultation Services for Planetree, Inc. As Director of Design Consultation, her primary focus was dedicated to assisting a variety of health care institutions improve not only the patient-centered aspects of care, but also the safety and health of those who work and are treated in these facilities.

Prior to joining Planetree in 2007, Kimberly was the Vice President of Business Development and Project Principal at Albert Kahn Associates, Inc. in Detroit, Michigan. During this time Kimberly was responsible for the design and planning of a wide variety of health care projects, including acute care hospitals, outpatient clinics, ambulatory diagnostic centers and medical office buildings. With over a ten-year relationship with Aurora Health Care, Kimberly was part of the team that helped to create the healing environment at many of Aurora Health Care’s newest medical centers throughout Wisconsin. In addition, her work with Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo, Brazil, helped to solidify the health care practice for Kahn’s office in that country.

A combination of a passion for healing environments and environmentally friendly design concepts, Kimberly demonstrates commitment to human-centered design by a strong commitment to evidence-based design principles as well. By examining the environment from the patient’s perspective, coupled with a personal commitment to promoting health and wellness, her critical eye detects areas within a facility that support healing, or in some cases, can become barriers to furthering safe, effective and efficient healing environments.

Recently recognized by Healthcare Design Magazine as one of health care’s Top 25 Most Influential People in health care design, Kimberly launched the Planetree Visionary Design Network to recognize excellence in creating patient-centered healing environments for architectural and design firms.
