About

HISTORY:  The Building Codes and Regulations Committee (BC&RC), has an interesting history. In 1987, the Building Officials and Code Administrators International Organization (BOCA) allowed for professional chapters (comprising of architects and engineers) to be created so that more than just Building Officials could vote and comment on new versions of the Code and code changes. In 1988, AIA Detroit formed the Building Codes and Regulations committee, which became BOCA Chapter #8. A few years later, BOCA rescinded the right for Professional Chapters to “vote” during the code hearings.

In recent years, as the code has changed to the International Code Council, the BC&RC is now recognized as an ICC professional affiliate chapter, and the committee remains active in Michigan Building Code Review committee process.
