The elements of the River Plaza redevelopment project include the rehabilitation and enhancement of two existing vacant apartment structures into residential units with ground floor retail uses. Additionally, the plan will incorporate a pedestrian promenade link that connects the Jefferson Avenue sidewalk with the Detroit River. A primary landscape element includes the creation of a working vineyard on the site of Owen Park that will provide grapes for an adjacent tasting room. The rows of grape vines will be public space and open for pedestrian interaction with incorporated seating areas. Another distinctive public space will be added to the riverfront in the form of an urban beach with sand, willow trees and shade umbrellas. The beach will take advantage of the water views and compliment the adjacent riverfront edge reserved for strolling and fishing. The site will also accommodate parking for the residential and retail uses as well as public space amenities.
