The residence is composed of 4 modules: Entry, Living, Sleeping, and Service. Each passive solar module features a single sloped roof and window openings oriented to take full advantage of the sun. Large openings in the 1st floor allow natural daylight into the lower level. The true galley style kitchen serves as the Central Core of the residence and its orientation overlooks the back yard’s wooded ravine.
A butterfly roof (R-value 56) projects beyond the glass line, providing both shade and unobstructed views of the mature pine forest beyond. The wood roof structure is exposed both inside and out, creating a natural rhythm along the roof plane span. With facades over 13’ high, the palette and composition of materials are used to provide a human scale to the exterior. Wood frames and cultured stone add texture and warmth. while exterior glazing opens the building up to its natural surroundings
