This National Historic Landmark site touted project goals of enhancing the visitor experience, expanding programs and relocating all administration staff to one central location. The program for the new Administration Building and Visitor Center showcases historical Cotswold design, Jens Jensen’s landscape design strategies, incorporates innovative storm water strategies, and highlights methods for energy savings. The design focuses on a contemporary interpretation of the Cotswold style, staying sympathetic to the existing buildings, while creating a clear distinction between the original and the new. Conceptually, the design approach focuses on using the new project as part of the foundation’s educational program goals “to enrich the lives of future generations and serve as a window to the past” – Eleanor Ford. Solar panels, natural ventilation, automatic blinds, geothermal and other sustainable strategies allow the administration building to achieve Net Zero Energy and the visitor’s center to achieve LEED Silver.
