Communications Coordinator

The Communications Director is responsible for implementing the AIA Detroit marketing and communications plan that will strategically promote the organization through compelling story-telling and relevant communications. This position is responsible for maintaining communications to the AIA Detroit membership, between committees and the AIA Detroit Board, event attendees, the public, and the media.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Communications
• Assist the Executive Director with the generation of original content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action
• Reach out to Board Members and Committee leaders on a monthly basis for relevant content that they would like published
• Oversee and send communications to new AIA Detroit members, Fellows, and Newly Licensed Architects
• Ensure that committee news/events reaches AIA Michigan and other local AIA Chapters
• Follow up with event attendees and participants as needed (Celebration, AIA Detroit sponsors)
• Distribute Continuing Education Credits and Certificates after an AIA Detroit CEU event

External Communications and Public Relations
• Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, press releases, and AIA Detroit’s website
• Coordinate and implement webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly
• Assist in publishing content through AIA Detroit’s social media channels (Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn, Instagram, Google Plus), whether original AIAD content or re-posted from other sources
• Assist in press releases and engaging the media on behalf of AIA Detroit
• Develop and maintain relations with the local media and National AIA publication resources
• Assist in the development and distribution of sponsor communication materials
The ability to take content and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.

• Experience developing and implementing communications and branding strategies
• Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
• Commitment to work collaboratively, including with the AIA Detroit Executive Director, Board Members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other AIA Detroit supporters
• Self-starter, able to work independently; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
• Experience with website management and digital communications platforms (Constant Contact/Survey Monkey)
• Familiarity with the architecture and design industries
• A marketing or communications degree is a plus
