Changes in the 2015 International Residential Code & Michigan’s New Residential Energy Code

SEMINAR DESCRIPTION
The State of Michigan has begun using a new Residential Building Code and Residential Energy Code as of February 8, 2016; don’t be left behind! A full-day seminar on April 5, 2016 will cover the updates to both codes.

Significant changes from the 2009 International Residential Code to the new 2015 code will be presented by Steve Van Note of the International Code Council. Steve will cover changes made to the building, mechanical, fuel gas, plumbing, and electrical provisions of the code as well as updated wind requirements.

Along with Michigan’s 2015 Residential Code Update came the correlating update to Part 10 of Michigan’s Uniform Energy Code pertaining to residential uses. Tim Mrozowski of the Michigan State University School of Planning, Design, and Construction will present the updated code requirements. Tim’s presentation focuses on the new energy code and the energy provisions included in Chapter 11 of the 2015 Michigan Residential Code.

SPEAKERS
Steve Van Note is the Managing Director of Product Development for the International Code Council (ICC), where he is responsible for developing technical resource materials in support of the International Codes. His role also includes the management, review, and technical editing of publications developed by expert authors. Prior to joining ICC in 2006, Steve was building official for Linn County, Iowa. He has 15 years of experience in code administration and enforcement, and over 20 years of experience in the construction field, including project planning and management for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. A certified building official and plans examiner, Steve also holds certifications in several inspection categories. Steve is the co-author of 2015 IRC Significant Changes.

Tim Mrozowski A.I.A., LEED AP BD&C, is an architect and Professor of Construction Management, in the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University. He conducts research on sustainability, application of LEED® to design and construction, energy codes, energy audits, energy modeling, energy assessment, and construction project management. Since 2003 he has directed and conducted training for the Michigan Energy Code Training and Implementation Project (MECTIP) which has been funded by the DTE Energy, US DOE, Pacific North West National Laboratory, Michigan Public Service Commission, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Michigan Bureau of Energy Systems, Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. To date MECTIP has conducted over 100 energy code and compliance trainings with over 5,000 industry participants.
